“Look, there are always gonna be people who are ignorant and will say that standing out from the crowd in high school, especially as an LGBTQ person, is a really bad idea and that you should just keep a low profile until adulthood. There are always gonna be people who will say that you can’t do a thing, likely because they’re too afraid to do it themselves. Now, I can’t tell you what to do, I’m not the boss of you, all I can say is that I think it’s a good idea to start [the LGBTQ support group]. Yes, it will be hard at first, but this whole damned situation of the way people treat LGBTQ people, especially the kids, is really fucked up and it needs to be changed. But it won’t ever change as long as good people remain sitting on their asses waiting for a better time. They say all over the media that “It Gets Better”, well, it won’t get better unless we MAKE it get better. The Civil Rights movement of the 60’s never would have taken off if good people had waited around for the better days. In that same vein, we can’t wait around for better days for the LGBTQ people, we need to work at it. Me, I’m a humanist. I believe that most people are, or have the capacity to be, very good people. They just need to be shown that this or that isn’t okay anymore.”
